Discover Computer Graphics
Computer graphics is at the crossroad between arts and technology, combining graphic arts with the use of computers and software adapted to 2D and 3D work. Computer graphics aims at the production of visual content that can either be still (images and layouts), animated (films and animations), interactive (web design and multimedia) or even interactive and animated (video games).
But also…
Computer graphics (also called computer-generated imagery) is the science of digital imaging. It refers to computer-created and computer-assisted graphics whose management is based on a graphics workstation made up of hardware like the processor or the graphics card (their power determines the response rate and the computing speed of graphics units), input devices like the scanner or the caption stand, manipulation devices like the mouse or the graphics tablet. It is also made up of storage devices like the hard drive or the USB key and of output devices like the printer or the monitor, of a user interface allowing the user to interact with the computer and finally of the data format ensuring the link between the rendered image and its digital elements.
When the concept appeared in the eighties in the French language it referred only to graphics, which were then call ‘infographics’ (graphic representation of information) and aimed to represent information that was usually static visually by means of diagrams, maps or charts.
Computer graphics is linked to graphic arts by the people who consider it as a form of artistic expression.
It is also the technique consisting in finalizing the graphic designer’s work on computer. This profession was born at the same time as computing technology (it is the continuation of graphic design).
